It is estimated that as high as 70-90% of visits to a doctor have emotional and mental stress as an underlying cause of a person’s symptoms. What is stress? How would you define it? We here at the office believe stress can be defined this way. (James 4:1) “You want something but don’t get it.” So, we could say, that stress is created when we desire to get something or we want something to happen and we don’t get it. Or, there is a fear that we won’t get it. Studies of people who have lived to be 100 or more have shown that their ability to process shattered expectations with a good attitude was the number one positive factor in their health and longevity. Most people have never been taught or never consistently practice healthy ways to process negative emotions. One of many ways that helps is found in the BIBLE under Phil 4:6-7 which says, “ Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God, and the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
